Antigua

Founded by the Spanish in 1524, Antigua, Guatemala was the political, cultural, economic, religious and educational center for Spain’s activities in Central America for 230 years. The city provides some of the best Spanish colonial architecture in the Americas. Today the city of 43,000 is a vibrant blend of Mayan and Spanish cultures with several of the oldest Catholic churches in North America. The central plaza is encircled by past Spanish administrative buildings and is the center for social, marketing and dining adventures.
