Folsom, California
January 13, 1968… “Hello, I’m Johnny Cash”made Folsom famous when C&W icon Johnny Cash gave a cafeteria concert in the state prison there. Cash’s popularity led to the creation of the Johnny Cash Trail and Bike/Pedestrian highway overcrossing in 2014. The area of the city was originally settled in 1849 and called Negro Bar. The present town was laid out in 1855 by T.D. Judah for the Sacramento Valley Railroad and named for J. L. Folsom, quartermaster of Stevenson’s Regiment. The city of 73,000 (2020) is a popular destination for shopping and dining in the historically preserved downtown district and for outdoor entertainment and sporting activities.
