Indiantown, FL is in Martin County, 30 miles southeast of Okeechobee City on State Road 710, and on the banks of the St. Lucie Canal, dug during World War I. The village was settled by Seminole Indians in the nineteenth century and in July 2022 had a population of 6,668, with 64% Hispanics and the largest density of Guatemalans in Florida.
Baltimore banker Davies Warfield planned to make Indiantown the HQ of his Seaboard Arline Railroad and designed and built much of the town, including the Seminole Inn, in 1926. His niece, Wallis Warfield, held gala events in the Inn and became well known in UK history as the Duchess of Windsor.
Area industries include cattle and citrus.
Well-known Florida cowboy Francis Erik “Skeets” Boe of Pahokee died August 4, 2022 and was remembered by state cattlemen and farmers with a memorial trail ride a nearby DuPuis Management Area, August 27, with Indiantown riders among those honoring “The Cowboy” who was a favorite visitor of the Seminole Inn.
