O’Leno Florida State Park
Famed for being where a river disappears, O’Leno is located on US441 six miles north ofHigh Springs where once a small settlement existed on the Santa Fe River.
During the 1930’s Great Depression, FDR placed a New Deal Civilian Conservation work camp at O’Leno and the CCC boys created one of Florida’s first state parks. O’Leno features a CCC constructed suspension bridge over the Santa Fe River and river bank walking trails that guide hikers to where the river swirls into a sinkhole and flows through underground caverns for several miles to reemerge again and continue its flow into the Suwannee River.
The park has preserved structures built by the CCC boys which are used for special meetings and events. There are also cabins for rent, campings areas and a small museum that identifies the life and work at the O’Leno CCC Camp. Beside the museum is a statue of a CCC worker in action.
