Angel’s Diner Palatka, Florida
Lewis Grizzard ate here and Billy Graham got take-out hamburgers for a road trip to Jacksonville.
Angel’s diner is Palatka is famed as Florida’s oldest continually operating diner. Established by Porter Angel in 1932, the diner is built into a railroad dining car from the early 1900s era with an interior of shining chrome with counter and table seating. Curb service and outdoor seating is available, and customers can be found wearing Panther T-shirts, work and business attire, beachwear, and tuxedos. The menu provides all day breakfast and diverse Florida specialties including fried chicken and crab cakes. Your servers are friendly local ladies and the cook will abandon the kitchen to ask customers “How’s the food, folks?” and receive smiles and approving nods. More than a diner, Angel’s is a cultural and historical adventure located at 209 Reid Stret on US 17, just north of the St. John’s River bridge.
