Discovered in 1570 by Diego Garcia de Palacio, the Mayan ruins of Copan in the jungles of NW Honduras are one of the largest and most prominent concentrations of preserved Ancient Mayan civilization and the city thrived between 250-900 AD. The nearby community of Copan Ruinas (population 12,000 in 2023) encircles a town plaza that is the cultural and social center of the area offering delicious coffee, food, fruits, and textiles and hospitality and friendship.
