Micanopy, Florida…

Where History Celebrates History

Established in 1823, Micanopy is located on U.S. 441 south of Gainesville and is the oldest town in the interior of Florida… and this is where history is preserved and respected, especially in the town’s July 4th celebrations. Micanopy’s Independence Day parade is an authentic window to the regional people who value the preserved culture of an earlier time with costumed historical figures; antique and classic trucks and tractors; and floats for churches, veterans and civic groups, and local politicians. this is a parade that is not commercially exploited but celebrates our nation’s birthday in the shadows of a town still living in yesterday.
