Camp Blanding, Florida World War Two Museum
Located on Florida State Road 16 east of Starke, Camp Blanding is headquarters of the Florida National Guard and an active training facility that during World War Two trained over 800,000 troops for overseas combat. During the war, Blanding became the 4th largest city in Florida and infantry divisions trained there including the First Infantry Division and the 29th, 20th, 31st, 36th, 43rd, 63rd, 66th, and 79th. Among the most famous divisions was the Double D Dixie Division consisting of state guard units from Florida, Alabama, and Mississippi. All divisions have monuments detailing where its troops were deployed and major battles fought.
A World War Two barrack houses authentic artifacts, clothing ,banners, pin-up girls, newspapers and exhibits presenting daily life at Blanding as well as US and enemy weapons used in World-wide battlefields. Surrounding the museum are several acres of vehicles and aircraft used in World War Two. There is no charge for museum entry.
