Chichicastenango

Located in the highlands of Guatemala near Lake Atitlan, Chichicastenango’s Thursday Market Day brings thousands of Mayans together to buy and trade from each other in what becomes a kaleidoscope of colors, smells, voices, and religious fervor on the steps of the Church of Santo Tomas. Negotiations are expected and market day is a social, cultural and economic adventure for Mayans and tourists who purchase textiles, musical instruments, native crafts, vegetables, meats and religious items and fresh chicken still squawking and flapping their wings.
